SAN JOSE, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas has returned to Costa Rica's squad for a friendly against Catalonia, the Costa Rican football federation said on Friday.

Navas last played for his country in March 2024 and announced his retirement from international football two months later.

But the 38-year-old, who has been in outstanding form for Argentine club Newell's Old Boys, is understood to have changed his mind after a conversation with national team coach Miguel Herrera.

The friendly will be played at Johan Cruyff Stadium, in the Barcelona metropolitan area, on May 28.

Costa Rica will use the match to prepare for June's World Cup qualifiers against the Bahamas and Trinidad and Tobago, and the CONCACAF Gold Cup, which begins on June 14.
