Death toll from Dominican Republic nightclub collapse rises to 124

PANAMA CITY, April 9 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from the roof collapse at a nightclub in Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic, has risen to 124, with at least 155 others injured, local authorities confirmed Wednesday.

Dominican President Luis Abinader has declared three days of national mourning starting Tuesday.

The collapse occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning at the Jet Set nightclub during a live performance. Local media reported that the roof fell after a sudden power outage.

Rescue efforts are still underway, and the cause of the collapse is under investigation.
