Cuba reports 2,967 new COVID-19 cases

HAVANA, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Cuba recorded 2,967 new cases of COVID-19 and three more linked deaths in the past day, taking the national caseload to 1,008,616 and death toll to 8,348, the Cuban Ministry of Public Health informed Wednesday.

The ministry added that there were currently 17,312 active cases of COVID-19 on the island, 42 of them being treated in intensive care units.

The province of Holguin led the daily count with 485 new infections, followed by Las Tunas with 267 and Sancti Spiritus with 216.

According to the health ministry, more than 87 percent of Cubans have been fully jabbed against the coronavirus with home-grown vaccines and over four million people in Cuba have received a booster shot.
