RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Santos have announced the signing of former Barcelona youth team player Matias Lacava on an 18-month deal.
The 18-year-old attacking midfielder joins the Brazilian Serie A club on loan from Venezuelan outfit Puerto Cabello.
"Without doubt he is an important signing," Santos president Andres Rueda said in a statement on the club's official website on Tuesday. "We've been monitoring him for a while. He is a player that was being looked at by several clubs and he chose to come to us."
Lacava, who has represented Venezuela at U-17 and U-23 level, was a member of Barcelona's fabled La Masia youth academy from 2013 to 2015 before joining Italian Serie A club Lazio and later Benfica.
Santos are currently eighth in Brazil's Serie A standings with five wins, four draws and five losses, 13 points behind leaders Palmeiras.
