BEIJING, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

BRASILIA -- Brazil has confirmed 204 cases of infection with variants of the coronavirus, including the variants first detected in Brazil and the United Kingdom, the Health Ministry's Health Surveillance Secretariat (SVS) reported on Tuesday.

Of these cases, 184 correspond to the P.1 variant first detected in Brazil, and 20 to the variant first reported in the United Kingdom, the SVS said.

PARIS -- French health authorities on Tuesday reported 20,064 new coronavirus infections over the past 24 hours, up from 4,646 on Monday and from 19,590 last Tuesday.

Since the outbreak, 3,629,891 people were diagnosed with COVID-19, the world's sixth highest tally after the United States, India, Brazil, Russia and Britain.

HAVANA -- Cuba on Tuesday reported 836 COVID-19 infections in 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 46,197, as well as four more deaths for a total of 304, the Ministry of Public Health said.

According to the ministry's report, among the recorded cases, 824 were community transmitted and 12 were imported.

BUCHAREST -- The number of coronavirus-related fatalities in Romania reached 20,013 on Tuesday after a further 119 patients died in the past 24 hours, the latest official data showed.

The cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases stands at 784,711 in the nation of some 19 million people, up 3,382 from the previous day, according to the Strategic Communication Group (GCS), Romania's official COVID-19 communication task force.

HOUSTON -- A U.S. federally-supported, state-managed COVID-19 mass vaccination facility was launched in Houston, Texas on Tuesday.

According to officials, the drive-through facility, located in NRG Park in Houston, plans to serve 6,000 people per day, seven days a week. In the first three weeks, it will provide the first doses of vaccine and then transition into second doses in three weeks.

NEW YORK -- New York State's COVID-19 test positivity rate went down to 4.23 percent on Monday, compared with 4.33 percent on Sunday, tweeted Governor Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the state's total COVID-19 hospitalizations and fatality respectively stood at 5,977 and 86 on Sunday, compared with 5,804 and 89 on Saturday, according to Cuomo.

OTTAWA -- Canada's cumulative COVID-19 cases surpassed 850,000 as of Tuesday noon, with the total hitting 851,231, including 21,747 deaths, according to CTV.

Ontario reported 975 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday morning, pushing the province's case total to 295,119, including 6,884 deaths and 277,939 recoveries.
