HAVANA, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez honored United Nations Day on Saturday.

"75 years after its founding, the UN (United Nations) continues to be essential. So is its necessary reform and democratization," the president wrote on Twitter.

The president said that "when multilateralism is at risk, so is peace."

Additionally, Rodriguez confirmed the country's commitment to the principles of international law and multilateralism.

"The construction of a democratic, fair, and sustainable international order that responds to the call for peace from the peoples of the United Nations is imperative," the minister wrote on Twitter.

The UN was founded on Oct. 24, 1945 after the majority of the first 51 member states ratified the Charter of the United Nations, the founding document of the organization.
