CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, July 11 (PIA)-In fighting the adverse effects of coronavirus disease (COVID)-19, the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Barangay 24, here, distributes fresh vegetables and fruits as relief goods, and holds regular clean-up drives.
During the CORDS X Podcast with Presidential Communications Sec. Martin Andanar, July 11, Barangay 24 SK Chair Cyrus Miguel Castro said, "Sa pagsugod pa lang sa COVID-19 among gibuhat sa barangay council ang pagpanghatag sa leaflets ug posters. Dadto nakabutang ang proper handwashing, pag-obserba sa social distancing, ug pagsuot sa face masks."
(At the start of COVID-19 pandemic, we distributed leaflets and posters. The materials contain information on proper hand washing, observance of social distancing, and wearing of face masks.)
Castro adds that the residents in the barangay were really thankful for such initiative since they were able to determine the right and wrong information about COVID-19.
Because the disease chooses no one and affects mostly the children and senior citizens, the SK chair said the SK council in their barangay chose to provide fresh goods so such could boost the immune system of their constituents along with the hygiene kits that they included in the care packs.
In ensuring that quarantine protocols are observed, the SK council also checks out the protocol implementation of establishments and malls as well as in their barangay particularly on the mandatory wearing of face masks and observance of social distancing.
As for keeping their barangay clean, the SK chair said they regularly conduct the '4-o'clock habit para deng-get out' to search and destroy mosquito breeding sites as well as to prevent other diseases that will be worsened by COVID-19.
"Gusto pa namo muhimo ug projects ug programa nga mulambo pa ang among barangay. Sa karon, dapat sundon ang protocol para iwas sa COVID," Castro said.
(We still want to do more projects and programs to devleop our barangay. For now, we just have to follow the protocol so we can prevent the spread of COVID.)
The SK chair also notes the change of behavior of their constituents saying they have become more alert, disciplined and they take the initiatives to help the barangay in its efforts to respond to the health crisis. (RTP/PIA10)
