RIO DE JANEIRO, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Atletico Mineiro and Ecuador international midfielder Juan Cazares has tested positive for COVID-19, the Brazilian club said on Sunday.
The 28-year-old was the only player to be diagnosed with the virus following a series of tests on Atletico's players and staff over the weekend.
"He [Cazares] is asymptomatic but has been isolated and will be removed from all physical activities. He is now under the care of the medical department," Atletico said in a statement on Sunday.
Cazares, who has been capped 21 times for Ecuador's national team, has made 205 first-team appearances for Atletico Mineiro since joining the Belo Horizonte club from Argentina's Banfield in 2016.
Brazilian football has been suspended since mid-March and only some states have allowed clubs to return to training under strict health protocols.
