DTI, RCC recognizes 2019 CMCI Cordillera LGU achievers

BAGUIO CITY, Dec. 16(PIA) - - The Department of Trade and Industry and the Regional Competitiveness Committee recognized the best performing local government units in the 2019 Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index during the 6th Cordillera CMCI Recognition Ceremony at the Holiday Inn here Wednesday.

Leading the awardees is the municipality of Alfonso Lista Ifugao, the national awardee in the 2019 CMCI after placing 3rd place overall (among the 874 LGUs assessed) in the Economic Dynamism pillar for 3rd - 6th class municipality category.

Also recognized were La Trinidad, Benguet for placing 12th (among the 489 LGUs assessed) in the 1st - 2nd class municipality category and Baguio City for ranking 18th among the 33 highly urbanized cities assessed

Given recognition as the most improved LGU is Baguio City for placing 4th among the 33 HUCs in the CMCI while awarded as Overall Most Competitive Province is Benguet.

For the most improved LGUs among the 1st - 2nd class municipality category, the awardees were Tuba Benguet (first place), Paracelis, Mountain Province (2nd) and Luna, Apayao (3rd).

For the 3rd to 6th class municipality category, the awardees were Lagawe, Ifugao (first place), Tinglayan, Kalinga (second), and Alfonso Lista (3rd).

Other LGUs given recognition for landing within the top 20 in the CMCI 2019 Economic Dynamism Pillar were Baguio City for placing 7th among HUCs, La Trinidad , Benguet for landing 7th spot among 1st to 2nd class municipalities and Buguias, Benguet and Lagawe, Ifugao that ranked 13 and 16o verall , respectively, in the 3rd to 6th class municipality category.

For the resiliency pillar, the LGU of Lamut, Ifugao was also recognized for placing 12th overall in the 3rd to 6th class category, La Trinidad, Benguet for placing 19th among 1st to 2nd class municipalities and La Trinidad, Benguet for ranking 19th among HUCs.

For the government efficiency pillar, the LGU of La Trinidad was awarded for bagging the 14th spot among the 1st to 2nd class municipalities.

Alfonso Lista also was recognized as the third most improved LGU among 3rd to 6th class municipalities in the region, moving up 66 notches compared to its 2018 CMCI ranking.

Special awards were also given to Luna, Apayao for the first LGU to submit documentary requirements; La Trinidad for submitting the best documentation.

Another special awardee was Lagawe, Ifugao for being the overall most improved municipality ranking 86th among the 874 LGUs assessed in 3rd to 6th class municipality category. It improved 154 notches up compared to its 240th ranking in the 2018 CMCI.

DTI Regional Director and RCC - CAR Chairperson Myrna Pablo congratulated all the winners for their feat in improving the competitiveness ranking of their respective communities and to all the LGUs in Cordillera for the 100 percent participation in the CMCI for the third straight year.

Pablo also called for continuing support of all Cordillera LGUs in the CMCI and a strong commitment and effort to improve their competitiveness citing that strong competitive LGUs are not only important in bringing progress to their respective locality but also key to national growth.
