LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, Jan. 15(PIA) - - Various activities are line d up for the celebration of the National Bible Week in this capital town.

Adopting the national theme, "The Bible: Real Talk (Psalm 19:7-8; 2 Timothy 3:14-17), the week-long event will take place from January 26 to 31 with multi-stakeholder participation from the various Christian denominations, schools, business sector and the local government.

Lined up activities are ecumenical service, fun run, bible Sunday services, prayer rally, short bible sharing in government institutions and schools, bible distribution, bible quiz and slogan competitions, and bible musicale.

Now on its second year of implementation, Ordinance No. 28-2016 provides National Bible Week a regular event to be held every last week of January with a P100,000.00 annual funding, said Councilor Roderick Awingan who authored the local measure.

The celebration will kick-off through a fun run around the valley on January 26 at 6:00AM followed by an Ecumenical Service and opening program highlighting the reading of bible verses and the formal opening of the week-long celebrations by Mayor Romeo Salda.

On January 27, the Christian churches are encouraged to have their own bible Sunday celebrations in the morning. The different Christian church representatives will convene in the afternoon for a prayer rally through testimonial sharing.

The participating church leaders will go around government schools and institutions for a simultaneous short bible sharing on January 28.

Pocket bibles are expected to be distributed in public high schools on January 29-30.

On January 31 will be the culminating activity. In the morning, there will be an inter-school bible quiz and slogan making contest anchored on the theme followed by the awarding of prizes. Choral singing of gospel songs dubbed, "Bible Musicale" will be carried out late in the afternoon.

Through the celebrations, it will endeavor to introduce the transforming power of God's word such as creating related activities highlighting the importance of the Scriptures in nation building, as stated in the measure.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed into law Republic Act 11163 declaring every last Monday of January, a special working holiday, as National Bible Day. (JDP/SCA-PIA-CAR, Benguet)
