American Airlines prepares to pay unwanted workers
Caribbean News.Net Thursday 3rd July, 2008
American Airlines, in reducing flights to cover record high fuel costs, says it will probably have to cut 900 flight attendant jobs.
The airline has already informed attendants by letter that it will start redundancies from August 31st.
The airline has also said it will need to assess the jobs of pilots and mechanics too, but hasn't made any decision on how many staff may go.
American, the nation's largest carrier, said Wednesday that job cuts were necessary to secure the company's long-term future.
American parent AMR Corp is expecting to pay US $70 million in severance costs.
